I never got to try a special dry light ride, and I went to wembley specially to try one, but they only had the dry light ride, hence I bought that and love it. But having heard yours, I'm definitely gonna continue to look out for one. Sounds like it may penetrate a bit more, yet still has the characteristics of mine. Anyway, nuff of that. I know what you mean about taking hours to get one take. On a piece recently, (nothing like the difficulty level of yours), but still 5 minutes long, I also kept doing take after take just because I kept making different mistakes, and yes, it's very frustrating. Makes us appreciate how skillful drums are. You have it though mate. Feel the force Louie [img]wink.gif[/img]
Really great stuff....sounds awesome....I actually just went through that afro waltz a few weeks ago aswell....I've been working my way through Robby Ameen's "Funkifying the Clave" book aswell....it's a killer book....it was cool to hear someone else play that tune aswell....
the weckl tune (tiempo) was burning...that was sweet....I have one of the older weckl play alongs which was alot of fun to go through, but there was nothing in that book like Tiempo...you killed that tune.... [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img] [img]graemlins/thumbs_up.gif[/img]

Nice sound! Were there any FX on the drums?
Also what causes this overload skipping on the minidisc? I'm thinking about getting one, but is it something you have to live with?
I think what Louie is saying is that the audio peaked on the minidisc into the red zone which is a horrible noise in the digital world , which might appear to be skipping.

Great job Louie! I agree with eveyone's comments about the shuffle feel. Personally, I can't pull off a decent shuffle feel unless I'm TOTALLY warmed up. Also, practice (and record and listen) playing the shuffle beat with transitional fills. I've found THAT is the hardest part for most drummers: playing a good transition fill and coming back into the shuffle nice and smooth with great feel.

I presume if the mic was picking up too much volume it was cutting out. If that's what you mean by skipping. I heard a bit of cutting out.

On the shuffle - If you want to work
on it, I might have a suggestion.
Work on this triplet, accenting the second
of the RR's:
RR-L RR-L RR-L RR-L etc.
On the "Tiempo..." tune, thanks for being
so open with me about it. Let me encourage
you to play this OVER AND OVER AND OVER
again. Don't stop playing this tune!
Think about the horns. Place them above
everything else, except for the feel of
the tune. I want to hear more takes on
this in the future and I bet that when I
do, I'm going to hear you play it differ-
ently and more comfortably, for sure and
already, you're killing on it!
Another question on it - Did you try to
do it all at once or did you break it up
into sections ("Tiempo...")?

I don't think the mic was cutting out as much as I think it's just due to the signal to the minidisc was overloading. I have had that happen before.
